Behind every energy infrastructure project there is an essential profession: the welder. Natural gas transmission pipelines, technological installations and industrial infrastructure all depend on the quality of welded joints. Every gas transmission pipeline and industrial installation is built through the work of specialized technical teams, and welders represent one of the most important professional categories in this industry. In other words, the welding profession is highly in demand in 2026.
In the oil and natural gas sector, welding quality is a critical factor for the safety and durability of infrastructure. For this reason, welding is one of the most important technical skills in the construction of transmission pipelines and energy installations.
Throughout our activity in industrial and energy infrastructure projects, INSPET’s technical teams have accumulated significant experience in welding works for transmission pipelines and technological installations. Across the projects delivered over time, we have exceeded 10 million inches of successfully tested welds, each joint being verified through rigorous quality control procedures specific to the oil and gas industry.
At the same time, our teams have accumulated more than 60 million working hours in complex critical infrastructure projects, contributing to the development of essential energy systems for Romania and the region. These milestones reflect the professionalism of our teams and the experience gained in delivering energy infrastructure projects according to international technical standards.
Welders – Essential Specialists in Energy Projects
In the construction of natural gas or oil transmission pipelines, every weld must meet very high technical standards. Transmission pipelines transport natural gas over hundreds of kilometers and operate under high pressure. For this reason, welded joints must comply with strict execution and quality control procedures.
Each weld is verified through non-destructive testing methods, such as:
- industrial radiography
- ultrasonic testing
- visual and dimensional inspections
- pressure testing
Welders involved in energy infrastructure projects must be certified according to national and international standards, and their professional training requires technical qualifications and specialized certifications.
Welding in Pipeline Construction. Welding in Energy Infrastructure.
In energy infrastructure projects, welding is one of the most important stages in pipeline construction. Transmission pipelines are made from metal pipe segments that must be precisely joined to create a continuous system for transporting natural gas.
Welders are responsible for producing these joints, which must withstand extreme conditions of pressure, temperature, and environmental exposure.
The construction process of a transmission pipeline typically includes:
- preparation and alignment of pipe segments
- execution of butt welds
- inspection and verification of weld quality
- application of anti-corrosion protection
- system testing before commissioning
Without these precision works, energy infrastructure could not operate safely.
Examples from Energy Infrastructure Projects
Energy infrastructure projects often involve the construction of large-capacity pipelines with significant diameters and lengths of hundreds of kilometers. Such projects may include:
- natural gas transmission pipelines
- cross-border energy interconnections
- technological installations for the oil and gas sector
- compressor stations and industrial facilities
Throughout our activity, we have participated in numerous energy infrastructure projects, contributing to the construction of more than 4,000 km of pipelines for natural gas, oil and water transportation.
Within these projects, our technical teams have performed complex works including:
- industrial welding for transmission pipelines
- mechanical assembly and technological installations
- industrial construction works
- anti-corrosion protection and insulation systems
These works are now part of the energy infrastructure that connects regions and contributes to the energy security of national and European systems.
Training the Next Generation of Welders. Welding in Energy Infrastructure.
For us, developing energy infrastructure is not only about technical projects or kilometers of pipelines built. It also means taking responsibility for training the next generation of specialists who will work in this industry.
For this reason, we are actively involved in supporting dual vocational education, offering scholarships and practical training programs for students who choose technical professions. We develop these initiatives in partnership with “1 Mai” Technological High School in Ploiești and the Municipality of Ploiești, important partners in supporting technical education.
For us, training future specialists begins in school. That is why we regularly visit high schools and talk directly with students about what it means to choose a technical profession and about the real opportunities offered by the energy infrastructure industry.
We explain the projects we work on, the responsibility of the welding profession, and how a well-learned trade can become the foundation of a stable and respected career. Above all, we try to spark curiosity and increase their intrinsic motivation.
In the spring of 2024, we organized a campaign dedicated to students, presenting technical professions that are currently in high demand – welder, electrician, or mechanic.
To make the message more memorable, each student received a tulip bulb with the invitation to plant it and watch it grow. We explained that developing a profession is very similar to growing a plant: it requires patience, care, perseverance and attention. A career is built in the same way – step by step, through learning and experience.
Students who are part of this program have the opportunity to take part in practical training internships at the company’s West Industrial Platform, where they can directly observe how activities are carried out in a real industrial environment. Here they interact with our technical teams, technological processes, and the working standards specific to energy infrastructure projects.
An essential role in this process is played by the company’s mentors – experienced specialists who guide the students and help them discover the welding profession. Through direct guidance and practical examples, they pass on the knowledge accumulated over many years of work in industrial and energy projects.
Through these programs, young people have the opportunity to learn a valuable technical profession, gain practical experience, and understand what discipline, responsibility, and precision mean in a field where every detail matters.
For us, investing in education and professional training is more than a response to labor market needs. It is a responsibility towards the community and towards the future of the energy industry. By supporting students who choose technical professions, we contribute to the development of a new generation of professionals who will build the energy infrastructure of the future.
Why Professional Training in Welding Is Important
The industrial construction and energy infrastructure sectors are currently facing a shortage of qualified specialists. Energy projects are becoming increasingly complex, and the demand for professionals in welding, industrial installations, and pipeline construction continues to grow.
In the context of the development of European energy infrastructure and cross-border natural gas transmission projects, professional training is becoming an essential element for the future of the industry. Through training programs and collaboration with vocational schools, we contribute to the development of a new generation of Romanian specialists capable of working on energy infrastructure projects.
Welding Training at the Workplace
In addition to dual education programs and internships, we also provide professional welding training directly at the workplace.
For many young people who come into contact with our activities at the West Industrial Platform, this process represents the first real step toward discovering a technical profession.
Within the company, the training process is carried out alongside experienced welders and specialists who share the knowledge and best practices gained through years of work in energy infrastructure projects.
Through practical exercises, guidance and strict adherence to industry technical procedures, those who choose this path can gradually develop the skills required to become certified welders.
Specialized Teams and International Collaboration
As energy infrastructure projects become increasingly complex and the demand for specialists grows across Europe, we have also started working with employees from other countries who complement our technical teams. Today, within the company we have highly skilled teams of industrial welders – professionals with experience in transmission pipeline construction and technological installations for the energy sector.
These teams bring together experienced people with diverse skills and a high level of professionalism, all essential for delivering energy infrastructure works according to international standards. For us, this diversity is a real advantage, as it helps us build strong teams capable of meeting the requirements of modern energy projects.
At the same time, we continue to invest in professional training and the development of young specialists, because we know that the future of this industry depends on the people who choose technical professions. In energy infrastructure, the welding profession remains one of the fundamental trades that make possible the construction of pipelines and industrial installations on which the modern economy depends.
Open to Welding Professionals for Strategic Projects
In the context of the development of energy projects and ongoing investments in natural gas transmission infrastructure, we continuously need highly skilled professional welders. For this reason, we are always open to welcoming qualified and certified welders who wish to work on major energy infrastructure projects.
For professionals in this field, such projects represent the opportunity to contribute directly to the development of strategic works, such as the construction of natural gas transmission pipelines and technological installations for the energy sector.
Within the company, these specialists become part of technical teams that contribute directly to the construction of gas transmission pipelines, technological installations, and complex industrial projects. Experience, professionalism, and attention to detail are essential in a sector where safety and quality standards are absolute priorities.
Therefore, if there are welding professionals who would like to work on important energy infrastructure projects, we are always interested in meeting them and integrating them into our teams.
